Bohatství starých map a jejich využití v knihovnách a dalších paměťových institucích

This contribution should offer to workers of memory saving institutions, in particular libraries, an overall information tool for helping the readers in their search and utilisation of certain specific information resources, such as old maps. The main point consists in the option of on-line use of digitized old maps from the funds of many complexes whose approach has been enabled by way of the Virtual map collection Chartae-antiquae.cz. The portal of this Virtual map collection contains, in addition to the actual database of old cartographic specimens, also quite a number of applications for the work with digitized old maps, atlases and globes. There are detailed descriptions of these tools, and namely: geographic search and perusal of maps, availability of georeferenced maps with the help of a map server, approach to digitized atlases and globe models, MapComparer for the comparison of maps, automatic search for map signs, conversion of maps in Zoomify format to the format for web map services (WMS/TMS) with the aid of a special geo-referencing unit, imaging of the WMS layer on a 3D map as well as the option of utilizing digitized maps in map applications of the users (in their own GIS). Yet another objective of the present contribution consists in recommendations to the colleagues in memory oriented institutions regarding the essential principles to be observed when digitizing map collections. In the first place the necessity should be highlighted to preserve the cartographic features of maps, including the precision of positions. Also a review of larger map collections in the Czech Republic, with focus upon the Virtual map collection Chartae-Antiquae.cz, has been given. Tento příspěvek by měl poskytnout pracovníkům paměťových institucí, především knihoven, přehlednou informaci, jak pomoci čtenářům ve vyhledávání a využívání natolik specifických informačních zdrojů, jakými jsou staré mapy. Jedná se hlavně o možnosti online využití digitalizovaných starých map z fondů mnoha sbírek, které jsou zpřístupněné ve Virtuální mapové sbírce Chartae-antiquae.cz. Portál této Virtuální mapové sbírky obsahuje kromě vlastní databáze starých kartografických děl i řadu aplikací (nástrojů) pro práci s digitalizovanými starými mapami, atlasy a glóby. Tyto nástroje jsou detailněji popsány. Jsou to: geografické vyhledávání s prohlížením map, zpřístupnění georeferencovaných map pomocí mapového serveru, zpřístupnění digitalizovaných atlasů a modelů glóbů, MapComparer pro porovnávání map, automatizované vyhledávání mapových značek, převod map ve formátu Zoomify do formátu pro webové mapové služby (WMS/TMS) pomocí vlastního georeferenceru, zobrazení WMS vrstvy ve 3D mapě a možnost použití digitalizovaných map v mapových aplikacích uživatelů (v jejich vlastních GIS). Dále je cílem příspěvku poradit pracovníkům paměťových institucí, jaké zásady je nutné dodržovat při digitalizaci mapových sbírek. Patří mezi ně na prvním místě nutnost zachování kartografických vlastností map včetně jejich polohové přesnosti. Je uveden i přehled větších mapových sbírek v ČR se zaměřením na Virtuální mapovou sbírku Chartae-Antiquae.cz.
