The paper is a report on the 27th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) held in Montreal, July 8 to 18, 2019. In the introduction it focuses on the IUGG structure and briefly describes the procedure that resulted in the decision to select Montreal for the venue in 2019. Subsequently, some basic facts are given, in particular the number of participants and the program of the opening session. The paper then continues with the content of the union scientific program in Montreal and in detail it gives information on its segment prepared by the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). It also gives information on the business and organizational session of the IUGG council, on the choice of the venue for the general assembly in 2023, on the adopted resolutions and on the election of the IUGG president. Similar detail are given in connection with the meeting of the IAG council and the IAG executive committee. In the paper one can also find a part devoted to honorary and scientific awards forwarded in Montreal, to the content of the social program and to scientific excursions. In retrospect one recalls also Prague as the venue of the 3rd and 26th IUGG General Assemblies in 1927 and 2015. Finally, the IUGG resolution of thanks devoted to the 27th IUGG general assembly local organizers is mentioned. The papers also summarizes the importance of the assembly. Článek je zprávou o konání 27. valného shromáždění Mezinárodní unie geodetické a geofyzikální (IUGG) v Montrealu ve dnech 8. až 18.7.2019. V úvodu zachycuje strukturu IUGG a stručně popisuje volbu Montrealu za místo konání v roce 2019. Následně uvádí některá základní fakta, zejména počet účastníků a pořad zahajovacího zasedání. Dále se článek věnuje obsahu vědeckého programu při jednání celé unie v Montrealu a v detailu pak jeho segmentu, který zajišťovala Mezinárodní asociace geodézie (IAG). Zachycuje také informace o pracovních a organizačních jednáních koncilu IUGG, volbě místa konaní valného shromáždění v roce 2023, přijatých rezolucích a volbě nového prezidenta IUGG. Podobné informace uvádí též v souvislosti s jednáním koncilu a výkonného výboru IAG při shromáždění v Montrealu. Článek zachycuje složení nového výkonného výboru IAG. Zmiňuje se o předávání čestných cen a vědeckých ocenění, o vědeckých exkurzích a obsahu společenského programu. V perspektivě zpětného pohledu připomíná také Prahu jako místo konání 3. a 26. valného shromáždění IUGG v roce 1927 a v roce 2015. V závěru se zmiňuje o děkovné rezoluci IUGG věnované místním pořadatelům 27. valného shromáždění IUGG a shrnuje jeho význam.
